Bajaj RE60 Mini Public Passenger Carrier

Bajaj Auto on Tuesday launched its first four wheeler; in the form of the RE60-which the company has termed as a "Public Passenger Carrier", rather than a car. The price of this new vehicle will be announced at its formal launch a few months from now. Touted as a rival of the Tata Nano, the RE60 is being considered a suitable replacement for lakhs of three wheelers-offering more safety and stability as an urban mobility option.

Rajiv Bajaj, the company's Managing Director, has said that it did not wish to make a car. The RE60 base model comes with an integrated fair meter in the dashboard.

Powered by a 200 cc engine that churns out around 20 bhp power, this four seater is the smallest four wheel vehicle yet and boasts of a surprising fuel economy of 35 kilometers per mile. The vehicle is also environment friendly with a CO2 emission of 60 grams per kilometer.

Designed in house with intra-city duty cycles and safety requirements, the RE60 will be sold through its network of three- wheeler dealerships. Bajaj estimates exploring RE60 to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and even Africa and Latin America, where there are low affordability levels.
