Car Alternators

A car alternator is an essential electrical generator that converts mechanical energy from the engine into electrical energy. It charges the vehicle's battery while supplying power to all electrical systems when the engine is running.

How Car Alternators Work

Driven by the engine serpentine belt, the alternator uses electromagnetic induction to produce alternating current (AC), which is then converted to direct current (DC) by built-in diode rectifiers before feeding power to the vehicle's electrical grid.

Symptoms of a Failing Alternator

  • Dimming or flickering headlights and dashboard lights
  • Battery warning light illuminated on instrument cluster
  • Frequent battery discharge or dead battery
  • Growling or whining noises from engine accessory belt area
  • Electrical accessories functioning slowly
