Founded in the year 1985, Yamaha is one of the leading manufacturers of automobiles in India. Yamaha bikes are world renowned with its R1 series. The company which is actually a Japanese auto giant made a very huge impact after it made its debut in the Indian bike market. The year 1996, saw Yamaha bikes entering into a joint-venture with the Escorts Group and in the year 2001, the company got its remaining stake and brought under its full control the Indian operations as complete subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd, Japan,.

   
Yamaha is one of the most popular motorcycle manufacturers in India and is also one of the oldest manufacturers of motorcycles in the country. Yamaha in the year 2008 entered into an agreement with Mitsui & Co., Ltd, and became a joint investor in the 'India Yamaha Motor Private Limited' or IYM, which is a motorcycle manufacturing company.

With the launch of 100 cc 2-stroke motorcycle RX 100, Yamaha bikes initiated the volume bike segment in the Indian bike market. Yamaha has earned a country-wide recognition with the introduction of a wide range of 2- stroke and 4 -stroke motorcycles in India. The product portfolio of Yamaha bikes includes Crux (100cc), R15 (150cc), FZ series (150-180 cc), Fazer (153cc), Gladiator (125cc) and Alba (106cc). Yamaha bikes are focused in serving the customers through innovative technology, modern designs and excellent performance.

Yamaha in India operates from two manufacturing units, while one is located in Faridabad in Haryana, the other one, which is also the more recent one is located in Surajpur in Uttar Pradesh. The recently opened Surajpur plant has the capacity to manufacture around 6 lakh motorcycles in a year.

The excellent dedication in the manufacturing of high quality motorcycles has helped Yamaha bikes in India won several awards and accolades, like Apollo Tyres Auto India Best Brand Survey Awards 2010 for best styling, most sporty and success in motor sports.
