Chevrolet was founded by Louis Chevrolet and William Durant founder of General Motors in the year 1910. Chevrolet was acquired by Motor Giants General Motors in 1917. Ever since then Chevrolet has almost become synonymous with General Motors being its highest selling brand of cars. General Motors is one of the largest automobile manufactures in the world. General Motors and its strategic partners produce cars and trucks across 34 countries and sell and service these vehicles through the following brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, Opel, Vauxhall and Wuling.

   

Chevrolet India & General Motors



Chevrolet introduced itself in India in 1928. It opened an office in Mumbai and the first assembly plant ever in India in Sewree. It started production in 1928 with the renowned national series AB Touring. Chevrolet was quick to establish its brand name in India with its proven credentials for building four-wheel mechanical brakes and wooden wheels. In the first year of production, 13,903 GM cars and trucks were built at Sewree, including products from other GM brands.

General Motors India is now a completely governed subordinate of General Motors Corporation. In India it offers products under Chevrolet brand. The brand was first launched in India officially in 2003 and surfaced as one of the popular Indian brands. Chevrolet is known for its excellence, dependability, security, style and eco-friendliness.

Among the wide range of cars, Chevrolet's Optra Magnum Diesel, Aveo and Spark has been ranked as excellent in terms of quality in their respective divisions. Aveo-U-VA and Optra has also won many automotive brilliance honors since their market launch. Chevrolet India Sales Private Limited which is a subsidiary of General Motors sold 69,583 vehicles against 65,702 units sold during the year 2008 (January to December) and reported a increase of 5.91% in sales.

Chevrolet Cruz: The Cruz by Chevrolet is a seven seater meant to replace the Chevrolet Optra, scheduled to be launched in India and across the globe this year. The Cruze is expected to be launched in 1.6- and 1.8-litre petrol and 2.0-litre turbodiesel engines, with the latter offering excellent fuel efficiency. . In India the car is expected to be launched above Optra Magnum. According to General Motors the Cruze would offer a stunning mileage of 20 kmpl.

Chevrolet Corvette: The Corvette is the sports sensation by Chevrolet that is soon going to be seen on the Indian roads. After competing successfully for the last ten years with international brands the Corvette is all set to enter the Indian subcontinent. The Corvette is extremely stylish and sporty in its exterior, incorporated with 6.2 Liter 430-hp V8 engine and offers a host of other safety features.

Chevrolet Beat: The Beat is the latest buzz created by Chevrolet in the Indian car market. It is a small hatchback competing with the likes of Ritz, Swift and i10. The car is released in both the petrol and diesel versions with 1.2 L engine with efficient MPFI delivering maximum power of 82 bhp for the petrol version and 57 bhp for the diesel version. The car is an eye catcher for its sporty and stylish looks and is also incorporated with an array of safety features.

Chevrolet Spark: General Motors rolled out the Chevrolet Spark in the small cars segment to compete against cars like the Zen Estillo and the Hyundai Santro. The Spark is a cute looking car offered in bright colors with a very pocket friendly price tag. The Spark is available in two petrol version engines with displacements of 795cc and 995cc. It delivers a power of 8KW and torque of 68.6 Nm@4600 rpm. The three-cylinder design provides a very flat torque curve, which results in a less peak power delivery. The 795cc engine claims to give a mileage of 19.2kpl on highways.

Chevrolet Tavera: The Tavera by general Motors is the perfect precedent of a multi utility vehicle. The Chevrolet Tavera is bulk and power, with flexible seating arrangements for seven to ten occupants. It is incorporated with an 8-valve Direct Injection Turbo Diesel engine which has a capacity of 2.5 L with displacement 2499 cc and a Noise Vibration Harshness System.
