Audi AG a wholly owned subsidiary of the German automobile group Volkswagen manufactures cars under the brand name of Audi. The company was originally founded in 1909 by August Horch. He named it Audi after the Latin translation of his surname ("hark!"). However Horch was forced to withdraw from his own company after the production of the first Audi car called A 10 / 22 hp Sport-Phaeton. He then went on to join his partner and open a new company which he named Audi. The company is active in more than 100 markets across the globe. Audi AG's wholly owned subsidiaries include Automobili Lamborghini Holding S.p.A. in Sant'Agata Bolognese (Italy) and Quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm.

Audi entered India in 2007 and set up its own sales company for India by establishing Audi India as a part of the Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai. Audi is making a clear long-term statement in the country with ambitious growths plans. Audi's goal is to become the leading automobile luxury brand in the Indian market in the next few years. The entire Audi range is is available at eight showrooms across the country in Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Kochi. Audi has recorded a phenomenal sales record of 778 cars for the first quarter of January-March 2010, and a sales record of 220 cars in March 2009 with a net profit of 36%.
